Just a quick update: I tried to compile gephex-0.4.4 against the latest
ffmpeg version (revision 10409 + swscale revision 24344).
It compiled and linked and even seems to work ;)
(I only tested it with two avi files, though).

So an update might still be the simplest option to try...
