Hi all,

sorry for my very late reply. I have been on vacation in Madagascar for
the last three weeks and have just returned yesterday evening.

Thanks to the very interesting and motivating feedback so many gave to
this question!

Development (as can be seen in the gephex-devel ml archives) has been
practically 0 during the last year (although there has been some
conceptual work for 0.5), but during the last few weeks there
has been some work again.

There will be a 0.4.4 [1] release sometimes after this years
piksel [2] meeting. This release will have the following changes:

  * Improved GUI (usability improvements, switch to Qt 4) [3]
  * frei0r 1.1 support
  * probably video jack support
  * new MIDI modules
  * improved support for Mac OS X (e.g. audio support)

On the downside, the win32 build system is currently in a transitional
state - the visual studio files are not up to date and the new build
system (using autoconf and mingw) is not completed 100%.
So it might happen that the win32 version of 0.4.4 will be later than
the linux release.

Regarding 0.5: Unfortunately, there was not too much work done here, and
probably will not be done until 0.4.4 is out.

Regarding cooperation with drone: maybe we can discuss this topic during
piksel!

Regarding the fact that (most of us) finished university: this in fact
has an impact on the project - development has slowed down considerably.
But the project is not dead, I hope that with the recent work
for 0.4.4, we will now continue with steady (if slow) development.

Again, thanks to all the feedback from users. This is really great to
hear and considerably increases motivation to spend time developing
gephex further!

Best regards,

Georg

[1] To whoever is interested, there is a recent development snapshot
containing the GUI changes here:
http://people.gephex.org/~georg/gephex-0.4.4_alpha2.tar.bz2
It requires Qt >= 4.1 to compile.

[3] Among the GUI changes:
  - property, graph, and log window can be detached from main window
  - log window can be closed
  - layout and position of the gephex windows is saved when exiting
    gephex and restored on the next start
  - it is no longer possible to accidentally hide modules and controls
    by moving them outside the visible area
  - control widgets size/layout fixed
  - control widget update problem fixed (sometimes, changes were
     ignored before, e.g. if middle-clicking a slider)
